James Northcote was an English-born American painter known for his 19th-century landscapes, marine scenes, and street scenes, active in New York City from 1858 until his death in 1904. After moving to the U.S. from England, he worked as a theatre scene painter and became a landscape and figure painter, exhibiting his work at both the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
