I used this freezer for about a year before I kept it in storage. This is a manual defrost freezer. When ice builds up 1/4 to 1/2 thick, it needs to be manually defrosted. I defrosted it about 3 times a year. If you keep door closed mostly or briefly open and close door when using, you will defrost even less frequently.
