condition: salvage
make / manufacturer: Maytag
I am giving away a stacking Maytag washer/dryer (washer malfunctioning), a malfunctioning top load washer, and a malfunctioning gas dry. I will give preference to anyone who will take all of these machines. I hope someone can repair them, use for parts, and/or recycle the metal. Thanks!

Here's the details:

381 Maytag Washer
Model LAT8504aae
Symptom(s)
Agitates, but will not spin, e.g. on rinse cycle
Test(s) done
Replaced both main and drain pump belts
Tested motor with a home built harness that bypasses the control panel. By switching two wires we can cause the motor to rotate in the opposite direction.
Agitate direction works fine
Spin/drain direction works OK when tub has no water, but does not spin and motor windings start to burn when tub has water
Diagnosis
With aid of ChatGPT, we think the problem is the brake assembly, located under the tub. Either needs servicing or replacing. One or two specialized tools may be needed, or improvised. New brake assembly between $100-200.

Dryer
Model
Symptom(s)
Functions normally, except no heat
Test(s) done
Tested all thermal fuses/sensors accessible from the back of the machine and found to be good.
Diagnosis
The problem logically must be with the igniter or gas supply valve, located under the drum. We have not investigated this yet. We were considering swapping the orifice for propane, allowing us to test with a home grill propane tank, suitably down regulated to 0.5 PSI, but have not done that yet
373 Washer/Dryer Troubleshooting

Dryer
Won’t start cycle
Probable cause is a blown thermal fuse
Disconnect all power
Disconnect dryer vent hose, hose clamp where it connects to dryer
The back cover must be removed, which means a dozen or more screws, including the two hinge-like brackets at the bottom that connect dryer to washer, and the 240V connections. Keep all screws separated by location and function.
The fuse is toward the front of the machine. It is hard to reach. It is held with a ¼” screw which can be loosened with a socket wrench.

Disconnect at least one of the connectors and test for continuity.
If defective (open), replace
clean out the dryer lint path
Attach rag to metal fish tape and run up to roof from bottom of vent pipe in pantry
Remove lint trap housing. Three phillips screws accessed from inside the dryer tumbler cavity, a bit tricky. A mirror may help.
Clean all parts, and vacuum out any debris remaining in the well where the lint trap sits.
Reassemble
Washer
Front panel shows 0 minutes when the door is closed, and selecting a cycle blanks the washer portion of the display.
Reset machine. Use the key and hold down the lower right button while turning the key. Panel lights up fully, many text areas illuminated. Remove the key.
