This trailer has no manufacturer’s labels and with years of trying to find out it’s history the general consensus is that it was probably built by someone who worked in the California aircraft plants right after the war. The construction is professional and serious equipment would have been needed to put this together. There are stories of these employees making aluminum boats, trailers and custom aluminum projects on there own time after the war so this is what we believe this is. The inside is the original dark wood, there is an enameled sink and icebox with overhead cabinets in the front. Having the kitchen inside as opposed to outside in the rear like most teardrops allows you to prepare meals inside during a rainy night.

I’ve Owned this trailer for 20 years. I found it in a barn in Los Altos, Ca. where the owner said it had been for at least 20 years. I replaced the axel and suspension with a modern setup at the time of purchase and it now tows beautifully. The trailer has no identification yet it is professionally built with lapped seams and although it has sat outside through a few coastal winter rain seasons, it has never leaked. I removed the windows and replaced all their gaskets and also painted and restored the interior. One very unique feature is the Drop Down Floor section. The kitchen is located in the front of the trailer, inside, and there is a 4’ x 3’ section of floor directly in front of the galley that lowers to the floor when stopped. When I purchased this, the floor was wood and lowered and raised by a steel cable system operated from the outside rear. The system was badly corroded and not able to be salvaged so I replaced it with a removable wood floor and a heavy duty canvas “bag” that snaps in when the wood is removed which enables you to sit on the floor with your legs on the ground making it very comfortable for eating or standing crouched to get dressed. I had a 5” foam mattress made covered in heavy duty canvas that covers the entire floor of the trailer right up to the drop down floor so you sit on this foam. After eating the floor pieces are reinstalled and the mattress is extended with matching foam mattress pieces secured by velcro so that even a person 6’3” can really stretch out.

First photos are from when I first got it and through work being done on it. Last 7 are current. As you can see extensive work has been done including fabricating a new door and sections of exterior aluminum. The new aluminum has oxidized so don’t expect it to look like it did when new. I built this with the intention of keeping it and I have for 20 years. It’s in excellent shape and you will never see another one like this.
