Shou Sugi Ban, or Yakisugi, is an ancient Japanese technique of charring wood. A unique result pronounces the wood grain. Not only is this a visual feature but also a tactile one. Shou Sugi Ban begs to be touched.
The pictures are an electric fireplace and shelving with Shou Sugi Ban. The fireplace frames a window with overhead lights. The shelving show cases a seashell collection.
These built-ins were constructed onsite.
