Full Time Position

The mission of Peninsula HealthCare Connection (PHC) is to promote integrated primary, preventive and mental health care for local community members who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, regardless of their ability to pay.

Peninsula Healthcare Connection is seeking a full time Medical Assistant

This position involves work in both front office and back office areas of the clinic.
It will require an experienced, focused individual with an ability to be flexible and prioritize tasks related to all aspects of clinic functions.

Duties Will Include:
• Maintain the reception area
• Maintain clinic according to county and state license requirements
• Welcome patients and visitors
• Use EPIC system to complete patient check-in and registration
• Use EPIC to verifiy all patient information at check-in
• Confirm purpose of visit
• Prepare patients for examination by taking vitals
• Room patients
• Perform blood draws, administer TB tests and do immunization injections
• Use EPIC to schedule and reschedule appointments, check-in patients and register new patients.
• Answer phone, keep written log of messages and relay message to intended recipient
• Retrieve faxes and process them by the end of the working day
• Insure that HIPAA policies are followed at all times
• Prepare and fax referral documents
• Follow up on referral request to insure patient gets appointment
• Prepare and fax requests for release of information (ROI)
• Check temperature of refrigerator daily, check the EKG machine and other machines for their dates of inspection

• Must have a passion and interest in working with vulnerable and underserved populations
• Must know EPIC for electronic medical record keeping
• Certified in phlebotomy and comfortable doing blood draws
• Able to prepare and perform injections for TB tests, immunizations and injectable medications
• Working knowledge of personal computers, and common software programs
• Must be able to work well under pressure, independently and in a team environment
• Strong oral and written communications skills
• Must be able to multi-task and set priorities appropriately
• Strong critical thinking and problem solving abilities
• Knowledgeable about billing procedures

• Work independently with integrity and minimal supervision

• Interact with patients and providers with empathy and professionalism
• Exercise sound judgment and make decisions appropriate to scope of authority and practice
• Collaborate with other members of the health care team
• Ability to perform a variety of duties within the scope of the job with the ability to change from one task 
to another, as necessary, without loss of efficiency or composure
