White Butterfly Ginger, Hedychium coronarium, is a fragrant, tropical perennial known for its pale to white butterfly-like flowers and lance-shaped leaves. It grows from rhizomes, reaching 3-6 feet tall, and performs best in full sun to part shade in moist, well-drained, rich soil. Hardy in zones 8 and above, it can be grown in containers or planted in beds and borders for a tropical effect and is prized for its beauty and strong tropical scent. This resilient perennial is remarkably easy to grow. Once established, it returns year after year, sending up fresh shoots each spring and summer from its ever-expanding underground rhizomes.
