What better time to explore the world on a boat? Here is your chance to get a heavy displacement cruising boat for a fraction of the price, you will need to bring some elbow grease. Currently she motors fine and can sail if you finish putting the rig up, the parts are here. Take a look at a sister ship for sale called Blue Turtle as a fine example of what this boat can be. https://blueturtlecruising.com/csy-44-walkover-for-sale/
We chose the CSY due to safety, space, displacement, and the fact there is no wood coring in the hull or deck. The CSY is a heavy displacement 36,000 lb boat built to very safe standards, one of the few brands that were unaffected by blisters due to the oil shortage and poor resins of the era, so they never suffered the blistering and many other problems of many older boats. They can handle rough seas when other light boats would make you sick, however they are surprisingly fast and nimble. While this can be a very capable and comfortable bay cruiser and overnighter, this is an ideal world cruising boat, specifically we wanted to travel to the South Pacific.
She will need work, cosmetic and more, priced accordingly.
Some possible advantages you will get with this boat that you might not get elsewhere:
Two private cabins and two full heads; the aft cabin is separated by the center cockpit and engine room below.
Huge Tanks, 400 water and 100 fuel, great for long distance sailing.
Decks and hull made of pure fiberglass, up to two inches thick towards the bottom of the hull as illustrated on the forum when people added transducers. No risk of rotten decks or hull here.
Encapsulated keel means no maintenance, with a shoal draft of 5 ft allowing you to access places most boats this size and ability can’t.
Maxwell 2200 windlass, in very good condition but needs to be lubed, it looks like it was barely used.
Huge amount of galvanized anchor chain
2-speed self-tailing winches
Perkins 4-154 with very low hours
Borg Warner transmission, also low hours.
All tastefully redone Sunbrella interior and exterior cushions, plus beds, still had some chalk lines from the upholstery shop when we purchased the boat. Not used yet.
Never installed, fully enclosed cockpit (white Herculon material, I believe) and isinglass for the cockpit dodger portion and other areas I believe. I believe we test fitted it and took it off to preserve it when we purchased the boat.
Stainless davits/arch.
Two 400w Air X Marine Windgens neatly mounted on the arch, blades are here but need to be installed.
New, unused main sail, batons are missing, I have some batons but I think they might be wrong. Several sails included, many are older.
There is a ST7000 Raymarine autopilot system installed that will work with Raymarine Seatalk, but will need a chart plotter unit and radar; the one that was included upon my purchase did not work and could not be fixed.
Rocna anchor in photo of aft cabin did not fit the boat and is no longer here, that was included at the 20k price when I first listed. The boat has an anchor and excessive tackle etc.
There used to be a huge forum for these boats. I have a copy of the forum, but I’m unsure how to view it. It was maintained by a few different people, some of them are my friends Sherry and Dave who used to own SoggyPaws, a CSY44 Walk Through. You can see much of the extensive upgrading and learn more about these great boats here: https://svsoggypaws.com/CSY/workshop.htm
The motor runs and has low hours, but other serious work has always taken a back seat to other projects. Now it feels like our opportunity to sail away has slipped away due to family and other commitments. I was hoping to use her as an SF cruising boat at minimum, but It’s time for me to let go and hopefully put her in the hands of someone that will properly enjoy her.
The following is some information regarding the CSY yachts:
