If you live within driving distance of San Bruno California you really are in luck.
Join me for a test drive of a Segway near new model X2. It takes 20 minutes to learn how to safely ride a Segway personal transport device. I taught my children and dozens of folks since. If you don't like the experience at least you had an adventure and if you do wow - you will experience the joy. It's a feeling of floating over the street. So if you like it or not you will have had a happy experience. Riding a Segway at a dealership still takes 20 minutes to learn out of your 1 hour tour costing $80 usually. So I offer you that same experience for free. Wear rubber soled shoes and a bicycle helmet. I can lend you a size large helmet. If you damage it, I'd expect you to pay the repair costs.
The X2 handles the same way as all other Segways other than the first generation which required sort of patting your head while rub in your tummy or else it would cause you to fall. The most dangerous part of riding a Segway is it's tendency to twirl tightly round and round and faster and faster. You will be thrown off on rocks or grass whichever you're upon. FYI your best strategy when you realize what's happening is to jump off.
Segways of whatever model use two 36 volt batteries sealed for weather protection in a heavy plastic case. 2 peices epoxied together.
When the batteries die it is nearly always because they were left to discharge say longer than a month certainly two and can no longer be recharged I'm so you need different Segway batteries used or new. Either way you will get standard Segway performance of 10 mph up the steepest hills near here just south of San Francisco. Buying a used Segway battery is iffy because it may die tomorrow. Finding a new battery costs $900 each. One Segway needs two so it's an $1800 dollar investment and you'll get standard performance.
My experience shows the best option comes from Segwaysolutions.com on the East Coast Massachusetts I believe. The cost is $1800 and the fellow there rebuilds them with more power not just equal to the original amount so when done your Segway will have a 50% longer range on a single charge and will go half again farther. If you return your 2 Segway battery case parts you will get a $50 credit for two of them so your final cost would be $1,750. I did this 15 years ago and indeed the claimed performance is true. So I highly recommend them and I bought again from the same website at the same price a month ago Batteries iust arrived with a 1-year guarantee to the original purchaser only.
I have had two I-2s for many years so that my son and I could ride together but he is now grown and out on his own with kids of his own and I haven't found the occasion to ride as frequently.
I am 74 now and I'm losing my ability to balance which is critical to ride any Segway in safety. So a month ago I found a local Segway tour owner and traded both of my I-2s for one X2 but without batteries and the batteries just arrived. Have a service dog in training due to my hearing impairment. Nearly deaf. Walking the dog is very difficult especially on the steep hills upon which I live in San Bruno. The Segway I2 worked very well but I have switched now to an e-bike to walk my puppy. Safer for me than on foot with a cane and it makes for a happy pooch.
The X2 is taller, wider, and designed for off-road use such as a beach or gravel uphill bike trails. You've likely seen them in airports worldwide. The company offers an optional golf bag rack attachment and they have been popular for use on a golf cart making the game more fun and eliminating the need for a caddy. (And you don't need to tip your X2).
I attach a link for a YouTube review of the Segway X2 and they were all the same for every model year until they quit making X2. Well review ought to tell you what the experience of riding one is like so come for a test ride if you're so inclined.
If you like the review and like your test ride or are willing to buy remotely realizing you'll pay the cost to ship as this thing is huge and heavy that will be fine.
If you know the Craigslist or eBay sales price is about $4150 for an X2 with batteries in doubtful condition, you will see the price I am asking to be reasonable especially if you can pick it up in person with a station wagon or pick up.
My price is firm by cash or Zelle. Great machine so I won't give it away cheaply. Doubt you would either.
Thank for considering my sales offer. Should you need parts at some point any Segway dealer can provide them.
Please look at the link below and arrange a test ride if you choose.
