I have a set of antique theater seats that I no longer have space for.
• Set of 4
• Circa 1920’s or even earlier (this is my best guess judging by the style. They could possibly be 1930’s or early 1940’s, but I doubt it. I can remember theater seats in the 1950’s (yes, I’m really that old!), and they were a much simpler design than these.
• I haven’t done any major research on them, and don’t know which theater or even city they came from
• Fold up/down cushion seats are comfortable and covered with Naugahyde (made from genuine Naugas!)
• Seat backs are curved wood with leather inserts that are slightly padded
• The material on one seat back is ripped (see photo). I think it can be patched without being too visible, but I haven’t tried yet
• Cast iron standards (the upright middle and side pieces) with wooden armrests
• They are technically not a full row, since two are attached to a common standard, and the other two are separate, but they can be positioned side-by-side to look like a row of 4 without any modification, as I’ve done in the past
• They could be joined as a single continuous row by removing the left side standard from each of the two single seats and reattaching to the other seats for a complete row. I just never did that to allow for flexibility and to make it easier to move them.
• The feet have screw holes for mounting to a plank or the floor for stability
• Also includes one extra cast iron middle standard (see photo)
• These seats can add an unusual bit of charm to your room that you won’t find at Ikea. I used to have two sets of Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy dolls seated in them, patiently watching the movie, but you can probably come up with a lot of creative ideas for them.
The seats are in my storage unit in Burlingame, close to 101 and Millbrae Ave.
