Extremely rare Haku Maki 丑 Ox print from the Animal Song Collection created by Haku Maki. The red Lantern Gallery in Kyoto distributed this collection in 1968 of the 12 animals of the zodiac of which 50 copies of each animal were made. This specific print is of the ox and exceedingly rare, there are almost no other copies of this version found for sale on the internet. The background colors are primarily purple and black and the main scene is of two large characters in black with one circling a red circle in the top character and the other a green circle in the bottom character. The bottom right has Haku Maki’s block signature in orange. In pencil from left to right it seems to read “17/50” as in number 17 out of the 50 of this version created. Next in pencil is says “Animal Song 丑“ with 丑 being the symbol for ox. At the far right is also in pencil “Haku Maki”.
The actual print measurements are 17 in by 17 in on thick paper. On the back you can see the shapes and characters pressed through into the paper as well as a small sticker in the right hand corner that says HM6, presumably for Haku Maki.

READ THE CONDITION DESCRIPTION AREA ABOVE for a more thorough writeup. The photos are a very accurate representation of the condition of this print.
I know that the condition of this piece is of the utmost importance so in order to keep it safe in transit I put the print between two pieces of thick hard foam board to keep it from bending. Then the whole thing is wrapped in another layer of cardboard to keep the inner most layer even more protected. It’s firm enough that someone would have to try with purpose to actually bend it so that it stays in existing condition. Also I will cover the cost of insurance in case of loss or damage. If there is anything else please feel free to contact me.
