The Apprentice Solar Installer will work directly with the Roof Lead and Crew Lead Installers in the field conducting solar installations. Daily work includes all facets of a solar installation, including roof work such as roof penetrations, racking, module mounting, electrical wiring, rooftop and attic conduit mounting and bending. Occasional mid-week travel and lodging to Bay Area job sites required for commercial installations.
Job Responsibilities:
• Create positive impression of installation services through polite, professional and courteous interactions with the customer
• Roof, attic & crawl space install work as directed by Roof and Crew Lead Installers
• Layout and mount hardware on a variety of roof types (i.e. secure & wire solar modules)
• Complete projects within given time frame while maintaining high quality workmanship and jobsite safety
• Jobsite care & cleanliness
• Pre & post install loading & cleaning work truck and trailer
Physical Requirements/Demands:
• Ability to work 40 hours/week
• Ability to work in extreme environments (hot sun, cold, crawl spaces, attic, etc.)
• Ability to work in various physical positions for extended periods of time including standing, bending over, kneeling, squatting
• Ability to walk on uneven and/or unpaved surfaces
• Ability to carry a ladder & materials weighing up to 75 pounds daily and often.
• No Fear of Heights - Agility and ability to climb ladders and get up and work on steep pitched roofs comfortably for extended periods of time.
• No Fear of Confined Spaces - Comfortable working in tight spaces; e.g., crawl spaces and attics.
Qualifications:
• 2 years + solar, roofing or construction trade experience
• Physically coordinated and experienced in handling general construction tools such as screwdrivers, wire strippers, channel locks, pliers, sockets and rachets, power drill, SawZall, impact driver, etc.
• Comfortable working safely at heights on rooftops
• Familiarity with job site safety and use of safety harnesses / fall protection preferred.
• Ability to safely handle construction materials such as ladders, solar panels, and assorted electrical equipment
• Ability to safely lift 75 lbs.
• Reliable means of transportation
Starting Wage/Benefits:
• $26.00-$28.00 per hour starting; based on experience
