Technical Director & Production Manager (Youth & Teen Theatre)
Key Responsibilities
Compile and produce sound, video, and special effects for all productions
Direct teen productions, including organizing rehearsals, blocking, and overseeing scenic and technical design
Support K–6 youth musicals with stage management and technical execution as needed
Collaborate with the Director, Music Director, and student stage manager to track all production needs (audio, video, scenic, and props)
Program and/or communicate audio and lighting requirements for each performance venue
Source, record, and edit sound effects and music tracks
Create, source, and manage props and furniture, including purchasing, borrowing, and transportation
Collaborate on scenic design within safety, spatial, time, and budget constraints
Maintain and organize technical equipment inventory and storage
Coordinate equipment rentals, including pickup and return
Work closely with lighting and audio contractors during technical rehearsals and performances
Recruit, train, and manage student crew (backstage, followspot, VFX/SFX operators)
Upload and maintain rehearsal materials for cast (scripts, music, practice videos)
Design and program cues (Qlab), including special effects and scene transitions; train student crew on execution
Assist in securing rehearsal spaces as needed
Schedule and attend paper tech, cue-to-cue, technical rehearsals, and performances
Lead strike, including organizing cast and crew assignments
Ensure safe, clean, and organized rehearsal and performance environments
Maintain availability for afternoons, evenings, and weekends
Core Qualifications
3+ years of experience in live performance (theatre, music, dance, or related field); student or community theatre experience preferred
1+ additional year of theatre production or event management experience preferred
Proficiency in QLab
Ability to work on a 10+ foot ladder
Ability to lift 50+ lbs
Must pass background check, fingerprinting, and driving record review
Ability to get to multiple locations in Marin for classes and rehearsals.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with K–12 students and volunteers
Strong background collaborating with creative teams on musical theatre productions
