Product Designer -- SaaS Winemaking App (San Francisco)

123

compensation: Flexible
employment type: employee's choice
telecommuting okay

InnoVint is looking for a senior Product Designer with extensive experience in UX, UI, and Product Design. You will own all product design initiatives within the company and will work directly with the CTO and CEO to create new features for our wine production application.

Ultimately, your goal is to generate beautiful desktop and mobile interfaces for our developers to build — but as a UX designer, you already know that's the last step of the product design process! There's so much more to this role than just generating pretty mockups.

Wine making is a complex process, and it's challenging to translate those processes into simple interfaces for our users to digest. You will work closely with our internal winemakers to deeply understand new features and the problems they're trying to solve. From there, you will generate product permutations for our internal team to review. Perhaps you'll generate flow charts that can help us understand the problem better. Your final deliverable will be generating digital mockups that look beautiful and modern.

A large part of this role is focusing on the UX. Our winemakers often say "I need this button here to do this thing" — your first instinct should not be to design that button, but instead figure out the problem they need solved. With your vast experience in Product Design and critical thinking skills, you'll make suggestions to best solve the problem. And hey, you might end up simply building the button after all of that :)

Your goal is to minimize clicks and and simplify all interfaces to distill the core utility of the features we are building.
Our core strength has been our incessant focus on usability. A pretty interface does not matter if the software is still a slog to use. Since there are so many processes and permutations in making wine, it's easy to build in too much complexity in our interfaces. Winemakers are not tech gurus— our interfaces need to look beautiful and function simply to engage and captivate our winemaker audience.

About us:
InnoVint is a web application that powers many US wineries' operations. We've been in business for 6 years, we service 600 wineries, and are generating enough revenue to sustain the company and grow indefinitely. Revenue continues to grow nearly 2x every year.

We are a large remote team of 11, with folks residing in SF, Napa, Portland, New York, San Dieog, and Winnipeg. Our employees contribute significant work to the platform remotely, from ski cabins in Tahoe to Brooklyn apartments. You'll have the freedom to set your own hours and work wherever pleases you, although we will meet up occasionally in the Bay Area and Portland. We plan for two trips a year where the full team gets together to discuss product, brainstorm, cook, and drink really expensive wine. Don't worry if your palate is atrocious -- us non winemakers still struggle with it after all these years.

In terms of product problems, we are in a fascinating space -- the domain has unique and novel problems to solve. We frequently visit beautiful wineries to understand their challenges and then help deliver tangible solutions for their operations. We are a team of friends who thoroughly enjoy what we do.

This is a senior role. Please share a Portfolio the apps you've worked on. We are flexible with the hours requirement — this role can be part or full time depending on the candidate. We do need a minimum of 20 hours a week.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
