Experience
Nature’s Way Montessori/Montessori Lead Teacher
Napa, CA
2023 - 2025
My position included all roles required to prepare the environment and provide a curriculum for all three years of primary education. This particular school offers 5 different classrooms starting at the age of 6 weeks. Children move up according to mobility, independence, mastery of developmental skills, and cognitive maturity. Age is only one of many factors when we transition a student to the next classroom. The outdoor environment of 4 distinctly different playgrounds and regular group nature walks and hikes hold an important place within our weekly routines.
Montessori School of Sonoma/Montessori Lead Teacher
Sonoma, CA 95476
2020 - 2023
My position included all roles required to prepare the environment and provide a curriculum for all three years of primary education. The program ran a morning and afternoon class of 24 students each. With that I oversaw the wellbeing and development of 48 students on a daily basis. We provided conferences with parents twice per year. There were several information evenings on Montessori education and the value of this school at the beginning and end of each school year.
The Spring Hill School/Montessori Lead Teacher
Petaluma, CA
2015 - 2020
My position included all roles required for building a brand new classroom. Ordering materials for and setting up Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Geography, Science, Music, Art. It was during these years that I organized and brought a peace curriculum to the children and families for practical applications. I created a music curriculum with resources from my early Waldorf days and the ukulele proved to be the ideal instrument. Advanced spirals, weaving in and out of lines, echoing messages, interactive partner steps, etc. were the highlights for most students. The work of Bev Bos and John Langstaff, songs by Elizabeth Mitchell and Sarah Pirtle have been regular resources ever since. Reciting poems and songs, clapping and stomping, twirling and spinning, dancing and skipping are of utmost importance for language development. Coming together with music brings instant joy and laughter to young children (and staff) and often is the remedy for undesirable behavior.
On Friday mornings I met with new parents and their 15 - 24 months children for a Mommy & Me session. This format ended up to be very successful and increased the enrollment for two toddler classes significantly.
Willow Tree School/Montessori Lead Teacher
Petaluma, CA
2010 - 2015
This is a small, Montessori inspired school. My role was to provide Montessori education for 2 - 6 year old students. I opened up at 7 am and welcomed sleepy children to ease into the day. Many students had very long days including several meals and naps as well as indoor and outdoor play. We organized many local field trips and went to the public library for story time every Thursday morning.
Crescent Montessori School/Montessori Lead Teacher
Sonoma, CA
2006 - 2007
I fulfilled all roles required for a primary lead Montessori teacher.
Brush Creek Montessori/Montessori Lead Teacher
Santa Rosa, CA
2000 - 2004
During these 4 years I went through the Primary Montessori Teacher Training at The Maria Montessori School of the Golden Gate, San Francisco, CA as well as starting as an assistant and finishing as a lead teacher in 2002. The training was held by Ursula Thrush (AMI) before she passed away shortly after.
I was given a completely empty double wide trailer to set up for the primary years. My excitement, work drive, and passion for this education made me excel in all aspects as a teacher: Preparing the environment, group and circle time, age appropriate fun songs and rhymes, giving individual and group lessons, classroom management, transitions, care of the environment inside and outdoors, team work with the assistant, safety, gross motor and garden activities, parent communication and building trust. During these 4 years we had a five groups of animals life in the classroom: Fish, frogs, turtles, finches, and Guinea pigs.
These 4 years of intense work built a solid foundation for the coming 20+ years.
Child Development Center/Preschool teacher
Santa Rosa, CA
1999 - 2000
Performing all duties of a preschool teacher for low income families.
Sonoma Waldorf School/Handwork & Art Teacher
Sonoma, CA
1991 - 1993
My role was to assist the Elementary teacher in the subjects of handwork and fine art. I was immersed in the Waldorf/Steiner philosophy and approach to young children. My teaching subjects required an extensive portfolio of reciting songs, poems and stories. My 2 sons went to this school and I consider the Steiner philosophy my foundation of education. Although I was only briefly at this school I continued these values at home with my family.
