About A Simple Gesture
A Simple Gesture is a neighborhood-based nonprofit program that makes donating food simple and sustainable. Households sign up to become donors, fill a reusable green bag with non-perishable items, and place it outside their door on scheduled pickup days. Our volunteers and staff deliver those donations directly to small, local food pantries that often lack access to larger food bank support.
We are growing our donor base and are looking for a friendly, energetic Green Apron Ambassador to help us expand our impact.
Position Summary
The Green Apron Ambassador is responsible for signing up new household donors for our home food donation program. This role focuses on outreach, community engagement, and representing A Simple Gesture with warmth and professionalism. You’ll engage with community members at events, neighborhoods, local businesses, and partner sites—encouraging them to join the program and support local families facing food insecurity.
This is a 1099 independent contractor position with complete scheduling flexibility. You choose when you work.
Key Responsibilities
Assist community outreach events to recruit new donors (tabling outside grocery stores, farmers markets, etc)
Engage the public with clear, friendly explanations of how the program works and signup donors to it.
Represent A Simple Gesture with professionalism while wearing the Green Apron.
Maintain and organize basic outreach materials (pamphlets, bags, sign-up sheets).
Communicate effectively with staff regarding opportunities, challenges, or potential partnerships.
Help identify new outreach locations or creative ways to boost donor participation.
Qualifications:
Strong people skills; outgoing and comfortable talking to community members.
Passion for helping families facing food insecurity.
Self-motivated and able to work independently without supervision.
Professional, friendly, and reliable.
Ability to walk, stand, and engage with the public for outreach activities.
Bilingual skills are a plus (not required).
Experience in community outreach, nonprofit work, customer service, or canvassing is required.
Compensation & Schedule
$25 per hour
1099 contract position
You create your own schedule (work as little or as much as you want, whenever you want)
