Our Kayak Activities are Wildlife Adventures. We partner with public and non-profit entities for sustainable tourism, recreational safety, research projects, and matching science and history education “hands on” in the outdoors. Join us to help promote ecological and recreational education.
All positions are welcome to intern in recreational safety training. Guide training opportunity: We teach kayak skills, and water rescue workshops. (Guide Certification testing available for year round guide opportunities.)
Paid Internships: Supplement your education “hands on” with us, earn education credit, and / or round up your own skills and experience for future employment elsewhere, or stay on part time in activities year round and as a seasonal trainer. Perfect for future outdoor leaders, educators, researchers and emergency service personnel. College Students and Military Veterans encouraged. College work credit available.
Our activities are popular: This can be a fast paced environment. We have paced the flow with reservation times that allow for social distancing for non-vaccinated clients and families. All of our large groups are fully vaccinated. Proof of Vaccination and at least one weekend day required. Masks required for all during Covid Surges. We have plenty of space and several times throughout the day when we can work with no masks on while doing individual tasks, especially when vaccinated.
Client Check in and Reservations: $16 - $18 an hour. Part-time 3-4 days a week.
Basic responsibilities: Stocking booth at beginning of each day, putting away at end of each day, maintaining care and inventory of gear and tour van, handling reservations, sales and client outfitting, and providing ecological and recreational information to our clients and the general public. Start at $16 in training and then manage our reservations and check ins during booth management shifts at $18 an hour.
Safety Positions: Train Now! 1 part-time and 1 full time.
(Water Rescue Certification Required.)

For immediate fast training, professional attitude and loyalty to our programs, clients, business, and safety.
Fast training: We are short staffed and need coverage all labor day weekend. Train now to work on your own at times during the slower fall and winter months. Must be ready to train and work through this labor day weekend. Plenty of work through September. Full time possible through mid-October and during school breaks year round. 4 days a week available year round, weather and water permitting. We can work with your college schedule. Must work at least one weekend day and holidays. One holiday day allowed off each Summer and Winter Holiday seasons.
Or work 3 to 4 days a week. Four 10 hour days negotiable for Summer months. Lunch time is paid. If we have no second shift staff, expect 30 minutes to 1 hour of overtime each day when you work on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
Basic lifeguard: Wanting to upgrade experience $18 in rapid training to $20 an hour. Upgrade for more pay.
Train to provide safety and risk management for rental activities.
Safety and Shift Supervision: $20 in training and to $25 an hour depending on experience and certifications.
Train to provide safety and risk management for rental activities, supervise assisting staff and switch to tour guide as needed.
Training: Cross train to rescue by kayak, learn our recreational safety and risk management procedures, learn to guide calm condition guided tours, optional opportunities to learn to guide in moving water for, fall through spring guided tours on the Russian River. You will get wet, sandy, and sometimes muddy / Ability to learn and share State Park and Federal Regulations, Recreational Safety information, ability to recognize changing outdoor conditions, tides, wind, river flow and river mouth conditions.
Safety and Guide Positions: Copies of vaccination card, recent and / or expired water rescue certifications required. Re-certification is now available.
Our boating activities remain within the protection of the Russian River Estuary waters. This can be a fast paced environment. Training can be intensive. Our job is to educate how to view local wildlife while avoiding river mouth currents and to ensure State Parks never needs to worry about our clients. They have their hands full with beach walkers and private paddlers. We set the example for recreational water safety and outdoor education at our location. Our safety reviews are thorough, educational and fun. Lifeguards aspiring to open water may meet our Sonoma Coast State Park lifeguards monitoring coastline safety. College Student Internships and Military veterans encouraged.
We also hire certified kayak, SUP, wind surfing and sailing guides and instructors.
Guide and Instructor Opportunity: We prefer you work as Beach Safety and Shift Supervisor Full-Time. Rotate to lead guide per tour requests.
Guides: $25-$35 an hour based on certifications and experience. We also need an on call list for larger tours.
Instructors: $35-$45 an hour based on certifications and experience. Subcontracts available for these positions, with your own insurance.
Tours we offer: Estuary, morning, sunset, full moon, glowing plankton and seasonal astronomical events.
Responsibilities: Teaching basic kayak skills and sharing local history, wildlife, and ecological information. Running safety and risk management for individual tours.
Schedule: Morning and/or evening, weekday and/or one weekend day required.
Lead guide or instructor positions require appropriate certification: Swift water or deep water rescue, CPR, first aide certifications and validation of previous guide or instructor training. We accept British Canoe Union (BCU), American Canoe Association (ACA), NOLS and Red Cross or equivalent. We can also cross train experienced lifeguards to rescue by kayak through a Day Trip Leader Certification.
Employee Minimum Requirements
18 years of age or older / Good driving record to upgrade / Upbeat attitude and great customer service skills / Self Motivated / Enjoys kayaking and the outdoors. Must be able to lift and move 50lbs without assistance.
Note: Being under the influence of mind altering substances while on duty will not be tolerated including medicinal marijuana use. Nicotine use of any kind, while in public, is also prohibited. Plenty of outdoor break areas are available. Drug addiction is not tolerated.
Mandatory: Full Covid 19 Vaccination. We Are "Sonoma Safe" and work with families, schools and children.
