I purchased this from the original owner on Talkbass in 2019. He purchased it from Robertson & Sons Violin Shop in 2014. It has been played professionally and kept in excellent condition. Fuchs is an outstanding maker, the only bow maker to have won a VSA Gold Medal in every category. The current hair is pure white and was done by the great Tetsu Suzuki. However, it is now due for a rehair (which has been accounted for in the asking price).
Dark brown round pernambuco stick typical of the maker. The ebony frog is sterling silver mounted and has Parisian MOP eyes. The slide is highly figured MOP, the tip is mammoth ivory, and the adjuster is a silver cap over ebony.
Overall length is 69.85 cm / 27.5 in and hair length is 55.88 cm / 22 in. The weight is very evenly distributed. On the string, the balance point is in the middle of the bow and is very comfortable. It does not give the sensation of a tip- or frog-heavy bow and feels effortless.
What is really unique is that it is relatively lightweight at 135 grams, but is as powerful and loud as a much heavier bow. This is a top quality professional or conservatory level bow. Comes with a fine upholstered Linda West hard case.
Please contact me to view and audition the bow. PayPal, cashier's check, and cash in person accepted. Delivery to the Lower 48 available at additional cost.
