condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: Shure
model name / number: SM 5B
Functionally perfect. This mic decidedly lives up to its reputation. It's warm, rich, and full; detailed but not the slightest bit harsh, brittle, or fatiguing. One of the cleanest mics you'll ever encounter. What goes in comes out.

Serial #309, so it was probably made in 1966 or shortly thereafter. The 5B was introduced in 1966.

Zoom in. The pictures will tell you what you need to know about its cosmetic condition: no dents or signs of abuse at all. Minor wear on the finish here and there. I have it rated as "excellent" based on performance. I'd call the cosmetics "very good."

I get a clean, strong signal through my SSL 2+ interface, though it's a low-gain mic. If I were recording a very quiet, solo instrument, I'd be tempted to add a Cloudlifter, but I've never had occasion to use one.

You can talk me down to $1500, but that's as far as I'll go.
