The G&L Tribute S-500 is highly versatile. It features Leo Fender-designed MFD single-coil pickups, and the PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) tone system for maximum sonic control.
Pickups: Three Fullerton-made MFD (Magnetic Field Design) single coils. These provide a higher output, broader frequency response, and less hum than traditional Stratocaster pickups.
Electronics: Standard 5-way blade switch, master volume, and the PTB system. The treble knob acts as a standard tone roll-off, while the bass knob functions as a passive bass cut. A push/pull expander switch on the treble pot allows you to activate the neck/bridge pickup combination or all three simultaneously.
Hardware: Leo Fender-designed Dual-Fulcrum vibrato bridge for smooth tremolo action and excellent tuning stability.
Neck: Hard-rock maple neck with a medium C-shape, 12" fretboard radius, and 22 medium jumbo nickel frets.
Tone and Versatility: The S-500 is often compared to a traditional Stratocaster but with a modern, higher-output edge. The PTB tone circuit is highly regarded because it lets you roll off excess bass to clean up a muddy bridge pickup or add a glassy, articulate edge to your sound. The push/pull switch gives you the extra tonal variations (like a Telecaster's neck-and-bridge combo).
