Pentron HT225 1950’s reel to reel tape recorder with tube amplifier and three speakers. If you like to mess around with prehistoric low power tube amps this might be your cup of tea. This tape recorder’s transport probably died decades ago, but the tube amp with its 3 speakers soldiers on. Two of the speakers are built into the cabinet, and what was advertised by Pentron as a “Floating Speaker” is a tweeter built into the lid of the carrying case with its own volume control and long cord. What makes things interesting is that there is an on board external output jack that you can connect to an external speaker of your choosing. The cabinet measures 16x16x12, and it weighs a little over 33 pounds.
Tested with a 1950's TrueTone electric guitar. The amplifier and all 3 speakers function well and so does tweeter volume control, and output jack to an external speaker/amplifier. It sounds pretty good on its own, and comes alive with an external speaker (I used a PA cabinet with a vintage Electro-Voice EVM 12" speaker). The cabinet looks like it has been dropped on its right front corner, and the deck is dented, but it lives on. $100, willing to trade.
