Soares’y Guitars was based in New York and their MO was to import guitar bodies and install pickups, electronics and necks that were made in house. This 7 string guitar’s headstock is adorned with a sticker dated 2004 celebrating their first anniversary in business. They stopped making guitars in 2025.
This 7 string electric archtop adds a string to the bass end, and features one pickup and volume and tone knobs. Its neck has 21 frets and measures 19.5” from nut to end of neck. It weighs 4 pounds, and measures 43 x 16 x 5. When placed in its hardshell case it weighs 14 pounds.
I bought the guitar from its original owner on eBay in 2016 and have owned two other Soares’y guitars. Every one of them has had its quirks and (frankly) some lack of attention to detail. On this guitar it takes the form of the volume pot - it is reversed to that turning is to the right lowers the volume. Also, a friend of mine played it this week and suggested that it would play a lot better if its frets and fretboard were polished. I agree with him, but I don’t feel qualified to do any work on guitars.
The pickup works well and has a clear sound, and the tuning pegs work well. Fret wear is very light. Other than the one ding on the upper bout, the finish is like new and the body and neck are excellent. Its case has plush padding and is 45” in length and 18” at its widest. It is in excellent condition, and all its latches work. $650
