They were called Zephyr drums because the Art Deco Streamlined lugs were reminiscent of the California Zephyr Streamliner train.
It’s an 8 lug mahogany shell with an outer ply of maple or poplar for a painted finish, which is in poor condition. I wrapped it in some automotive vinyl which looks good but has some wrinkles around the lugs. It will peel right off and leaves a clean surface behind.
The shell is structurally in very good shape with very clean bearing edges.
The lugs, throw off and butt are all original and clean; the hoops, snares and heads aren’t.
It’s a big drum with plenty of volume and a deep and resonant tone.
