Tall Mid-Century Japanese KUTANI Porcelain Lamp features a hand-painted peacock amid a floral motif in an array of rich colors of burnt orange, iron-red, and gold highlights. It has a solid brass neck extension and conventional Leviton electrical socket w/standard knurled rotary On/Off switch. It comes with a 10” H brass-finished harp and brass finial cap. (Lamp shade is excluded, buyer to make personal selection to suit individual decor.) The long-necked bulbous Kutani vase is mounted on an ornate Asian carved wood base. The lamp likely dates from the mid-1960s. Its elegant decorative porcelain detailing makes it suitable for vibrant or subdued color schemes and decor. The lamp w/harp and finial, mounted on the wood base stands about 37” H. The porcelain lamp alone is about 22” H. At its widest girth it is about 10”-dia. and its long neck, about 3”-dia. The wood base is 6-1/2”-dia. x 2” H. The porcelain lamp is in pristine condition, with no flaws. The wood base is in very good condition except for a 2” section of the topmost wood edging was sheared-off during a move; the flawed portion is mounted to the rear of the main visual axis of the lamp, centered on the peacock detailing. While the history of Kutani ware dates to the mid-1650s this piece offers the current styling, that includes a wide variety of designs such as scholars, landscapes, animals, birds, plants, and geometric designs, all decorated with combinations of polychrome glazes and precious metals like gold and silver. Lamp is pictured with a shade for reference, but it is not included; buyer to select to personal taste. A comparable pair of this lamp style is available elsewhere on-line for over $3,500 for the pair; consider this single lamp a bargain at this price. It’s available for local pick-up in San Rafael, cash, Venmo, or PayPal.
