Circa 1930s this modest-sized serving platter made by Homer Laughlin Co. is about 15” L x 11-1/4” W x 1-1/8” flare. It is neatly decorated with applied decals of roses, marigolds and daisies on a cream/off-white ground. Its shape ‘Virginia Rose’ has six embossed floral patterns around its oval scalloped perimeter. Undulating edge is highlighted with thin line of platinum trim. ‘Virginia Rose’ was produced for thirty-some years, from 1932 - 1968. On basis of production number J37N8 on the back of this platter it likely would date as follows:
J = made in January (or June)
37 = 1937
N = Newell Potteries, W. Virginia
8 = Plant No 8
Being 80-some years in age platter platinum trim has encountered some wear-related loss - subtle on general viewing but evident on close inspection. It also has acquired some light stains from normal use, and some cutlery scrapes that only are evident in strong cross-light, not apparent on general observation. It’s available for local pick-up in San Rafael, cash, Venmo, or PayPal.
