Selling rare white “Hawaii 4” strawberries in Montgomery Village area of Santa Rosa
To me, they taste like pineapple and lavender. These alpine strawberries resemble traditional garden strawberries, but their fruits are smaller and offer a more concentrated, intense flavor.
Birds don’t tend to eat them, and they last quite a while on the vine before slugs get them.
Once established, Hawaii 4 alpine strawberries produce continuously from June through October, and even longer here in Sonoma County. As day-neutral plants, their fruiting is not affected by day length. Unlike many alpine varieties, these plants also voraciously produce runners, making them excellent candidates for hydroponic systems and year-round indoor growing.
Hawaii 4 alpine strawberries were even evaluated by NASA for their potential suitability on a mission to Mars. The seeds were originally purchased from Strawberry Seed Store, which sourced them from the USDA-ARS Germplasm Facility. I was the first to import these to California in 2018!
