Set of five (5) Vintage Dark Oak ‘Caboose’ Chairs c. 1950s, were made by Boling Chair Company, Siler, NC, ‘Pattern No. 150.’ They have double compound bentwood backs and arms, turned spindles, solid oak contoured saddle seat, tapered legs, and steel tension rods. (The chair’s moniker ‘Caboose’ is attributed to the Union Pacific Railroad for the original design in the mid-1800s, for use in every caboose on every train. It was specifically made to withstand abuse and has proven to be one of the strongest chairs made.) They are about 30” H x 22” W x 19” D, the seat, 17” H, the arms, 27” H. These are of solid oak, sturdily constructed w/wedged wood joinery, metal ‘L’ brackets, and tension rods that make for a wobble-free chair. They show modest signs of normal wear for their age, with authentic aged patina, and some minor scratches and scuffs, but no chips, gouges, or splinters. Each chair has a Boling tag stapled to the underside of the seat. [Note that on the tag, the company address does not have a ‘zip code’ which was introduced in the early 1960s. This is the rationale for dating them to the 1950s.] These offer a classic and durable seating option with a touch of vintage charm. The set of five (5) is available for local pick-up in San Rafael, cash, Venmo, or PayPal.
