Vintage Colonial-style Maple Windsor Brace Back Dining Chair by S. Bent & Bros. (manufacturing in Gardner, MA from 1867 – 2001) is a high, spindle-filled back that resembles a comb, along with angled spindles (struts) from the back of the seat to the top rail of the chair back. (S. Bent & Bros. furniture is noted for its sturdy, traditional construction, with a carved wooden seat, steam-bent back and armrests, and a spindled frame.) The ‘S. Bent’ logo is impressed into the underside of the seat, along with a stenciled number’ B-R-A-32.’ There’s no apparent manufacture date. Given the company’s closure at the turn of the century, best guess is that this is a late 1970s production. This chair is solid and sturdy, and very comfortable. There are no chips, abrasions, scratches; it has only minor cosmetic wear consistent with its age,. It’s about 42” H at the back, the seat, about 22” W x 18” D x 18” H.
