Bought it a little while back as a project a while laid off from work, I have since returned to work and do not have time to continue working on it. Original V8/automatic car, has 302 with mild cam, sounds good. Has a c4 automatic transmission, shifts great.
Recent work includes: All interior/floor seams were re-sealed with 3m seam sealer, sound deadening mat throughout the interior, brand new door cards, re-finished door trim and rear door panels, brand new weather stripping all around, cleaned and greased window rails, new gas tank, basic tune-up, new front and rear bumpers, new lower front valance, and more.
Have more parts that are not yet installed. Basically all the chrome window trim front and rear I have is uninstalled, lower rear valance fully painted but not installed. Also have a brand new headliner that needs to be installed. Car is mostly complete, the only thing that is missing as far as I know is the front grill and some other minor things.
Always starts right up, but needs a new carburetor or some tuning. I'm no expert with carbs, it has a hesitation at mid throttle, but is fine under light or full. I still get around town no problem. I fixed the brakes when I got it, replacing wheel cylinders and other components. Brakes no longer leak and the pedal is nice and firm and responsive, they are four wheel manual drums. It still needs adjustment of the drums, has a pull to the left under braking. The shifter could also use replacement, it works as is however.
Paint looks good for an older driver quality respray, dark metallic green w/ white stripes. Hood seems to have had a non-functional scoop at some point but is no longer present. The car is pretty much rust free, California car its whole life as far as I can tell. Really the only signs of rust to note are a few minor rust bubbles on the lower fender. As far as I know all the panels are original, there's no indication the quarter panels were ever replaced. Solid car!
It's by no means perfect, but it's a really solid start for someone that has the time. It just needs some trim installed and some mechanical tinkering. I already dealt with the DMV and paid thousands in back fees when I got the car. Clean title in hand, ready to transfer.
