This 1940 Ford Coupe has been in the same family for 85 years...since new. It was purchased by the Grandfather of the current owner in Southern California, in the 80tes to the Sierra foothills. Since the 90tes it has been located in the Santa Rosa, Ca area.
The Ca title is in the Granddaughters name. The car was regularly driven until the late 90tes. Around 2003 it was put on Non-Op and stored in a Garage in Santa Rosa, Ca, where it is now.
The car is powered by the original 221CI flathead V8 engine, mated to the original 3-speed manual transmission. The shifter is mounted on the steering column. The interior seats and door panels were recovered with a vinyl material. The head liner and dash are original.
During its storage from around 2003 till today, the brake system was rebuild. New brake cylinders, master cylinder and brake lines where installed. The Master cylinder may need to be serviced again, since the brakes are very soft. The manual hand brake works.
The car was originally painted green, but was repainted in white during the 90tes. Paint is in good condition. there is no rust on any panels, the frame and undercarriage has surface rust, due to its long storage. The body is in over-all solid, original condition. The tires are from the 60tes and are dry rotted, as is to be expected.
All gages are working. the dash knobs need to be replaced. The lights do not work. The Generator does not charge, the battery is new. The wiring harnesses should be replaced.
In preparation for sale, the ignition system has been serviced. Spark plugs and ignition wiring were replaced. the distributer was inspected and is in good working order.
The car will start and run, operated by the ignition switch and dash mounted push button. The car idle smothly and will rum for extended times without overheating. Compression is over 100 PSI and with-in 10PSI across all cylinders. (pic's showing the compression on gag upon request)
The Stromberg 97 and the fuel pump were rebuild. Fuel tank was flushed and the car is running smooth, with fuel being drawn from the tank. There are no leaks in the fuel system.
The transmission shifts thru the gears. The clutch works well and the car was driven for brief periods. Due to the age of the tires and the soft brake pedal, the car not being registered for road use, it was not driven for extended distances.
The car is currently registered as Non-Op.
There are a few spare parts that go with the car (brake parts, (2) spare water pumps, original spare tire.)
The car can be inspected on short notice. It is located in Santa Rosa.
It is listed and sold on behalf of the owner.
