2001 Black Toyota 4runner SR5 with 4wd for sale $7500
Vehicle is smogged and clean inside and out. I purchased from a private seller in SF last December and have just recently purchased a 2024 4runner. This car served me well and definitely has the cool 3rd gen 4x4 factor, I’ve simply decided to start fresh on a low mileage vehicle to drive for the next 20 years.
Paint and body are in overall good shape with some areas of paint damage shown in photos, and a small left rear bumper dent.
Car battery is less than 1 year old. I have also replaced the muffler, did a transmission fluid drain and fill, and a/c Freon recharge. All done professionally at Imperial Auto in San Rafael.
While I don’t have documents on, these are some of the recent services that the previous owner has done:
At around 212,000 miles it received a new evap canister, new head gasket (not because the previous one had blown, but because they had it opened so the labor was already paid for), new spark plugs, new pads and rotors. At around 160,000 miles it received a new transmission.
Now to disclose a few of its troubles:
First off it’s an old car and needs proper time to warm up on cold mornings before it performs how it should. It’s just slow for the first few minutes of driving, especially in reverse gear.
The brakes are very grabby. Could be a simple adjustment, could be more involved.
A small leak in the evap system code popped up immediately after I purchased. A pressure test was performed and no leak was detected. The gas cap loosens every few days so I believe a replacement oem cap would solve your problems. They are pretty inexpensive online ($25). I simply clear the code and go about driving, and when I tighten the cap between refills it rarely comes up. I had no problem clearing the code and driving 100 miles to pass smog.
There is a small oil leak from the manifold. There is no visible smoke from oil burning. It had no problem passing smog (visible smoke is an automatic fail).
Sunroof does not open. In heavy rains a small amount of water from either the sunroof or windshield comes in near the driver side door hinge.
All that being said I paid $8,000 for this vehicle last year and I have spent a couple thousand dollars to maintain the vehicle, so price is firm for now.
