Up for sale is my 1965 for Mustang coupe - an ORIGINAL California black plate car. This car started it's life as a C code coupe with factory toploader and factory disc brakes. This car was my obsession for a long time, and was built sparing no expense. I love this car, but to be honest she sits unused in my garage way more often than she should, and I have too many other cars in my collection and thus I've decided to let her go to a new home where she will be loved and used the way I used to. This car is in excellent driver condition. She needs nothing to go out and enjoy. With the crate motor and 5 speed, she's crazy fast, and the new tires and wheels help her handle and stop better and faster. This car always fires right up, no smoke, no leaks, the drivetrain was entirely replaced with new parts. I have a lot into this car, as outlined below:
Powertrain: Ford Racing 302 crate motor, circa 2003, with gt40 aluminum heads and the B303 cam. It's lopey at idle. This is the "345 hp" version of the Ford Racing crate motor. The engine is carbureted with an edelbrock 650 cfm 4 bbl carb and intake. It has MSD ignition, coil and rotor and wires. Motor has roughly 17k miles on it. Also has holly electric fuel pump, 4 core radiator and flex fan, and more.
Transmission: "world Class" T-5 5 speed manual transmission. Brand new (not rebuilt) Ford Racing unit. Just installed professionally a year ago, maybe 500 miles on it. I installed a rebuilt unit that had a slight grind into third, I found that to be unacceptable so I had to pay to remove and install again, this time with a factory fresh unit. I had a custom made new driveshaft installed when I put the motor in. King Cobra clutch. Shifts very smooth with the hydraulic clutch assembly. I have a stock style shift handle attached to this, so the only way you can tell this isn’t a toploader is by the 5 speed shift pattern on the stock style knob.
Differential: Ford 8" rear end trac-loc with 3.55" - you don't want to go any lower than this with the T-5 or first gear will be useless. She runs about 1800 rpm at 65mph on the hwy in 5th gear. This unit was installed new about 10 years ago, and has low miles on it.
Exhaust: Ceramic tri-y headers mated to magna flow 2.5" stainless steel "X" exhaust system with turn down tips.
Suspension: All rebuilt with Mustangs plus parts in last decade. Rear has 5 leaf spring shocks, front has 620 coils. Handles well for a 65 Mustang, tracks straight down the road and has good road feel without power steering.
Interior: Very good condition black interior. Recently installed stock style steering wheel. Car has radio delete. The front and rear windshield were resealed by a shop that specializes in older cars in San Jose. Car is absolutely dry - no leaks from windows or cowls.
Exterior: A very dark green that is often mistaken for black unless seen in the sunlight. A truly beautiful custom mixed color. Paint is about 11 years old and starting to show its age. It has some chips and dings, however is a great 5-10 footer and is in very good condition for a driver. A show car paint job it is not. There are chips, some crazing from bond work, etc. it’s a great 10 footer and this car gets thumbs up every time I drive it, but I want to be honest about the condition.
Wheels: American Racing VNT70R - 15x7" with Michelin tires, These were purchased new and installed a few years back. Probably 4-5000 miles since then. They are in perfect condition - they even have the chrome mustang valve stems. (note some pics may show old wheels)
Sound System: Sony bluetooth head, about two years old. The unit is located in the glove box, which you can leave closed and just use your phone to control the tunes. Two 4 way 6x9"s in the package tray, two Sony 10" subs in trunk.
