In ancient Peruvian culture, the symbol most commonly associated with holding a snake is the "Amaru," a serpent deity representing the underworld ("Ukhu Pacha") and often depicted as a powerful, sometimes winged snake, symbolizing wisdom, transformation, and the cycle of life and death in Inca mythology; it was considered a key part of the "sacred trilogy" alongside the condor (upper world) and puma (earthly world).
