Beck(y)/Sk8Bag Recycled Skateboard Handbag was made from a skateboard, so it has marks from the used board on it. Sk8Bag was founded in in New York City by Becky Hickey in 2003 to design and handcraft one-of-a-kind bags and accessories using recycled skateboards and up-scaling them w/use of plush, high-end fabrics to create her fashion ‘art piece’ skateboard handbags, etc. The overriding concept was to not add anything to the decks, short of removing the grip tape and the rolling stock, to simply repurpose ‘something that was already there.’ This handbag uses the curved ends of the multi-ply wood deck, the nose and kicktail, for the bag exterior, and brings them together with the black, satin-lined interior w/an acrylic loop strap handle and a magnetic snap closer. ‘Skateboards are so personal to their owners,’ (Becky) says. ‘The stickers and scratches tell the story of what the board has been through. (She tries) to keep it as authentic as (she) can.’ The handbag is about 8” H x 8” W x 4” D. As promised, and as is, the bag is ‘one of a kind.’ As such, it’s available for local pick-up in San Rafael, cash, Venmo, or PayPal.
