I have owned this vessel, The Maria E, for almost 3 years and have also commercial crab fished as a deckhand for other captains for 3 seasons. During that time I have lived aboard the Maria E during fishing season and have continued to work on her. She has been dived on and the zincs inspected. At this point I feel the need to bring in another person to contribute the needed cash to bring her up to loanable status. For $20,000 the person would become one-half owner and we would use the 20K to buy the needed parts and materials to make the vessel operable, which would include hauling her out and recoating the hull. I would supply all labor but I would look forward to having another mind thinking about the vessel, and a partner to share in the excitement.
At the finish point, which should take a month or two, I would suggest that we have the vessel surveyed. I believe it would be valued at at least $60,000. The boat could then be used as collateral for a loan of about 120K, to purchase a 300 pot crab permi, used pots, and related crab fishing equipment such as an insert, some type of mast, a lifeboat etc. Worst case scenario is we could sell the boat and each make at least 10K in a couple months. Another option I have seriously considered would be to move the boat north to a port that is more crab fishing friendly.
Please text me for more info if you are interested. I have about 20 photos of all aspects of the vessel. Also I have loan contacts as well as personal references.
