A rare find, this 1st Edition of The Redwoods of Coast and Sierra has hardboard covers sheathed in real, very thin Redwood veneer. Some of the laminations have given way but much of the veneer is intact. Book was published by University of California Press, Berkeley, 1936. Original printed veneered wrappers have cloth-bound spine, 9-1/4" x 6-1/4". It is illustrated with twenty-some B/W photographs, four maps, diagrams. Text block is Very Good; as noted, modest cover veneer loses, otherwise no flaws. Quality example. Binding is sturdy, with spine scan correctly oriented, top-to-bottom. Volume has 74 numbered pp. + 22 B/W plates + 4 text figures. Front endpaper has personal inked autograph, illegible. Also included is a loose typewritten 2-page front/back narrative, presumably by the original book owner, titled ‘’A Brief History of the Redwood,’ authored by John Kipling, 2/72, Rev. 10/76. It was folded at mid-point and loosely inserted in book. It’s available for local pick-up in San Rafael, cash, Venmo, or PayPal.
