Cycling Weekly Verdict:
The Triban RC520 is undoubtedly one of the best-value-for-money road bikes on the market. An alloy frame, carbon fork and cable-actuated hydraulic disc brakes all at a sub-$1400 price point is unrivalled. The ride quality holds up to Triban's more established competitors such as Cannondale or Specialized but they won't be beaten on price.
The Triban 105 RC 520 an excellent road bike for someone looking to push themselves toward longer fitness rides, be it as part of a group, on solo adventure loops, or for lengthy commutes. It’s got a great group of parts on a sturdy, quality frame, especially at this price.
Speaking of the frame, it’s aluminum with a carbon fork, which helped soak up bumps under the front wheel, smoothing out the ride and alleviating some of the upper body fatigue that comes from buzzing down rough roads. The slightly wider road tires helped with this as well—the bike comes with 28mm tires (normal road bike tires are 23mm), and can accommodate tires up to 36mm wide. This is good news if you want to take the RC 520 down some dirt trails or sign up for your first gravel grinder, which will require a bit more stability.
