Eliud Coachy.’ This is indigenous folk art of Haiti ca. 1970s-1980s, acrylic on canvas over wood stretchers nominally 8” W x 10” H, mounted in contemporary Haitian carved wood frame, nominally 10” W x 12” H. Coachy's Cubist Abstract, Surreal and impressionism have earned him the reputation of one the leading artist of Haiti. His works are primarily in acrylic on canvas and gouache. This is one of the pieces referenced on the original bill of sale dated 1982 from the National Art Gallery, Petion-Ville, Haiti. It’s a colorful depiction of a woman vendor w/two baskets of fruit set against a simple tent structure against a colorful patchwork quilt-like background, and a skyline w/rising sun.
