This is a custom-framed artpiece of what appears to be a Maasai Tribal Woman with her back to the viewer. It is done in acrylics on canvas and signed by the artist ‘Alam.’ Instead of a conventional stretched canvas, the artist has presented the work as a flat surface and abraded the four sides of the canvas to create a fringe effect of about 1” fiber length. The Maasai are a semi-nomadic ethnic group in the Nile River region, including Kenya and Tanzania. They are known for their pastoralist lifestyle, centered on cattle herding. They maintain distinctive traditions, including their colorful red and bead-adorned clothing and intricate jewelry. The woman is wearing a bright blue garment w/patterned boarder resembling zebra stripes. She has a red shawl draped over her shoulders. She has collar-like neck adornment of bone or like material, and ear ornament of a similar nature. (Only married women are allowed to wear ear ornaments in their lobes.) The lone figure is set against a warm gradient blend of orange and yellow, a sunrise or sunset. The image is about 16” W x 21” H, with the fringe, 18” x 23”. It is set on a black backboard, under UV-protected glass, 20-1/2” W x 25” H. It is framed in 1” hardwood w/dark Mahogony finish; its overall size, 21-1/2” W x 26” H. The framed artwork is available for local pick-up in San Rafael, cash, Venmo, or PayPal.
