Accounts Payable Lead (novato)

Bank of Marin, voted by our employees as one of the "Best Places to Work" in the North Bay Business Journal thirteen years in a row, is seeking an Accounts Payable Lead to join our Finance and Accounting team in Novato.

The Accounts Payable Lead directs accounting staff in weekly processing of accounts payables, records transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), maintains fixed assets, and assumes ownership of special projects with minimal supervision. Researches and implements system upgrades and conversions. The incumbent trains and mentors accounts payable specialist, documents procedures and policies, and is compliant with policies.


· Train and mentor Accounts Payable Specialist and additional back-ups; provide assistance as needed

· Evaluate, design and implement conversions or upgrades of A/P systems to create efficiencies

· Oversee weekly check printing, signing and distribution (review invoices submitted for payment to ensure approved vendor and valid expense, designate or approve general ledger coding, etc.)

· Comply with all regulations and policies pertinent to this function, including Sarbanes-Oxley, authorization and approval limits, employee expense reimbursements, and Bank of Marin credit cards

· Create and update policies and procedures related to Accounts Payable as needed (i.e. SOX narratives)

· Identify posting errors or misclassifications and implement corrections

· Independently address and resolve customer and branch escalated issues

· Record the cost of newly-acquired fixed assets, track existing fixed assets, record depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets

· Prepare, reconcile and input monthly accrued expenses

· Resolve more complex vendor and department inquiries

· Prepare IRS information reporting (e.g. 1099) for payments made to vendors

· Prepare annual property tax statements

· Perform other special projects as assigned


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Proficient in Word, Excel, and Power Point

· Language Ability: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos

· Ability to write simple correspondence and memos

· Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the Company

· Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

· Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumferences, and volume

· Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

· Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four year college or technical school; three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
