Drill Press, Chicago Tools, Built in 1983 - needs electrical repair (berkeley)

But when I brought it back to my home, it didn't work. When plugged in and turned on, it will turn the spindle and spin (too slowly though) but produce some smoke. Unclear what the issue is, probably something electrical was pinched or damaged during transit. I don't have time or the skills to figure out a repair, so now I'm giving it away for free.
Mechanicals are great.
I am leaving it near the intersection of Cornell and Hopkins in Berkeley. It is a few doors down from this intersection, north along Cornell, near the curb.
If this post is still up, it's still there ready to be picked up - no need to contact me!
I suggest bringing a moving blanket to protect your car in transit.
It is heavy, probably ~100lbs. Best to bring a friend to help lift it.
