This car started as a heavy live steam tender. I have custom-modified it by cutting down the height and replacing the metal sides with wood stakes to give it a classic Union Pacific wood-sided gondola look. It’s built like a tank and tracks beautifully due to its weight.
Specifications:
Dimensions: 5’ Long x 16” Wide x 16” High.
Construction: Chassis: Hybrid construction featuring a heavy steel base integrated with solid Oak sills.
Weight: This is a solid two-person lift. The weight ensures it stays on the rails even when empty or carrying passengers.
Mechanicals: Equipped with ball bearings for an incredibly smooth roll.
Brakes/Couplers: This car has no brakes and no couplers currently installed. It’s a clean slate ready for you to mount your preferred coupler style (knuckle, link-and-pin, etc.).
Condition & Use:
The car is mechanically excellent with newer bearings. While not strictly "to scale," it captures the look of a vintage UP gondola and is ideal for hauling tools, ballast, or acting as a passenger car.
Note on Pickup: Please bring a vehicle with enough clearance and a second person to help load, as this is a heavy steel/oak unit.
