~~Us~~
Ch (she/they), 33 y/o black woman, working at the Exploratorium and moved from Dallas Tx in October, 2021. I am passionate about science and nature. I love to build/fix things and I love watching plants grow and walking in nature. I am new to hiking but do a lot more of it now that I am in the bay. I also have two chill cats (Meeko and Tikki). I love spending my time hanging with friends, finding great food and hanging with my girlfriend. In the summers I can be found in the shop building something, often for burning man.
T (they/them) is 29 y/o, white/jewish, working full time as a joint roller at 710 labs.. Grew up in Napa Valley, and fell in love with Oakland when studying at Mills. Vegan and try to be conscious about the environment and people in the world and the space I take up in it. Besides spending time outside I like to paint and write poetry that I sometimes perform at the open mic at melomelo kava bar. They sing in the Oakland Gay Men’s Chorus!
Zi: She/they, 35 year old, femme. Zi is lover of poetry, live music, and a stellar cup of coffee. They recently relocated to the Bay Area from North Carolina. Zi works as a physical therapist and sexuality coach/educator, and likes to nerd out about the nervous system/trauma/and human relationships. They value building community, movement practices of all forms, and savoring slow moments.
Za (he/they) is a 35 y/o Jewish, white, bisexual, gender-expansive man. Za runs his own business as a somatic coach, men’s group facilitator, and communications trainer. He recently transitioned out of a career in education, directing an empathy based summer camp, and teaching/restorative justice facilitating in oakland middle schools. Za loves movement, including basketball, contact improv/dance, hiking/alameda beach. Za likes to write, and occasionally performs (e.g sketches at theater kid festivals). Their latest passion project is a site to support men anonymously sharing vulnerable stories. Vegan, but flexible. Mindfulness and somatic practices are daily and important. Ram Dass is his spiritual daddy.
~Other good things to know~
⇒ The neighborhood: We’re literally on the border of Millsmont and the Eastmont Hills, close to the 580 freeway entrance (but not too noisy). If you have a car, we’re 10 minutes from Redwood Regional park and 20 minutes from Alameda Beach. We often walk in the neighborhood to King’s Estates park.
⇒ House systems: We have weekly chores, a “leave no trace” policy in communal areas, and ~monthly house meetings. This is not a co-op in that we don’t have bulk food sharing, for example, but it is an intentional community with warm vibes and a family-feel.
⇒ Accessibility info: The first floor is accessible by driveway, but the second floor and living room require stairs. It’s sadly not a particularly accessible house for those in wheelchairs.
⇒ Pets: We’ve got 2 cats (Meeko and Tiki). We’re possibly open to more animal friends on a case-by-case basis.
⇒ COVID: Our house values include caring for one another’s safety, and we had many discussions about it during the height of the pandemic. We are all vaccinated, and at this point, it’s not something we discuss a whole lot. We try to have tests available in the house at all times.
⇒ Za owns the home (bought 5 years ago), so please be comfortable with the idea of living with a homeowner-housemate. Za certainly doesn’t plan to “lord” over anyone (and aims to be economically transparent and anti-capitalist), but also knows everyone has different reactions to these dynamics. We want to make sure you feel good about it before living here. Feel free to ask more q’s about this as ya like.
