A live/work gallery CoOp in Berkeley is looking for 2 new housemates, with 2 separate rooms, available starting on July 1st. We're a co-ed gallery space in Berkeley with a very unique and cool space. Please read below for specific details about each space.
THE ULTIMATE MASTER - $1600 1BR + Private Living Room / shared bath
This is the cream of the crop. This bedroom is at the top of the stairs, facing the communal kitchen. Upon entering, there is a private living space (13.69ft x 15.5ft) that has built-in desks lining the walls. This is included in the rent. Passing through, you enter the main bedroom (15.5ft x 31ft) with large windows, plenty of closet space, and stairs leading to the bed loft. This room is easily the best room in the home, apr 692.69 sq. ft. total
THE SKYLOUNGE CUBE - $1200 1BR / shared bath
This accessible bedroom (18ft x 12ft) is on the first floor facing the main entrance to the home. There is little natural lighting, but the space has been retrofitted with color-temp adjustable track lighting and window blocks letting in natural light from the main gallery space. A really unique feature of this room is that the entire floor is made of wooden panels that can be lifted up to reveal storage underneath! (apr 215 sq. ft. total) We call this the skylounge cube as it sits underneath the communal skylounge loft above (pictures included)
These rooms have their own separate rent plus shared food (Typically around $150 a month). All utilities are included in your rent (other than food share). The food-share plan is mandatory as it’s part of our community culture. We have a washer and dryer that’s free to use (detergent and other consumables are paid for out of the house fund/food share costs). We have a newly renovated kitchen with modern appliances. There is a cleaning service that cleans all the communal spaces once a week, yet housemates are still expected to clean up after themselves. Our culture is one of awareness and minimizing the impact we all have on our fellow housemates. Housemates are a social and active part of our community, as we have monthly house meetings/ bonding. This isn’t just a cheap room to rent, it’s an active family of friends that hang out and care about each other.
Community participation is something we are actively selecting for (we want social housemates who want to do fun/creative things with the space!) Much of our space is shared amongst the community. It features a central gallery that doubles as a dance studio and a place for workshops and events. We host gallery openings, classes, open mics, and small events semi-regularly. We try to keep a gender-balanced household and are very clean, with an established set of processes that form the foundation of healthy communal living. We're very maker-oriented with many improvements to the space made by our community and us. Everyone is expected to contribute to making the space a better place to live, no matter what their skills may be.
