We are not just a house, but a home. It's comfortable, large (lots of shared spaces), built in 1908 (craftsman style) with gardens and large yards front and back w/fruit trees, and of course chickens! It's often quiet and peaceful, but occasionally (and respectfully) not. It's been solar powered since 1998, and we try to be efficient in our electricity usage.
We enjoy being home, but are often out.
We're also try to be socially and environmentally aware, and this effects how we choose to live, but we are also practical. We compost and conserve/re-use/recycle obsessively.
We're driven by fact/science based solutions, not the latest (nor oldest) fads.
We don't try to be perfect, just good (no dogma please).
We are *not* a house of minimal investment, neither in time nor expenses -- our resulting life quality makes it worth it, but when we spend money/time, it should have measurable benefits.
Groceries (and their costs) are shared. We occasionally cook for each other and share meals.
We are omnivorous, and partially organic.
We also share chores, maintenance, gardening, and beautification projects. We use a professional cleaning service for the light weekly cleaning of the common areas. Deeper and seasonal cleaning still are done by us.
We raise some of our own food, including fruit, veges, chickens (and their eggs).
We have house meetings once a month. We endeavor to find consensus solutions, so suggestions should be inclusive, and votes are to find out about peoples views/concerns, not make decisions.
As the owner lives with us, we're actually semi-cooperative (he provides a sort of anchoring/stabilizing vision).
We are currently 4-5 adults, aged from late 30s to early 60s, one high school aged teenager, and a cat.
A 2nd floor bedroom is available, 12.5x11.5. It has two windows (which face west and north), with hardwood floors.
