I am looking for a housemate who is extremely responsible, quiet, and organized—someone who values a peaceful and respectful shared living environment. My vision is “living alone together”: sharing space with ease and mutual respect while maintaining independent lives.
My home offers stunning panoramic views and is immersed in nature, yet it is just an 8-minute downhill walk to campus, close to trails (also about 8 minutes), and 10-minute drive to downtown Berkeley. Your room includes covered parking, a safe neighborhood setting, a lovely backyard (including a private area just for you), a panoramic deck, and a series of large windows that bring in natural light.
I have lived here alone for four years and have cherished every moment. It's a writer’s retreat, surrounded by beauty at all times. You can watch hawks flying at eye level, see the the moon and sun parading in front of your eyes, and enjoy breathtaking sunsets and sunrises.
You would have the master bedroom with a walk-in closet. We would share the only bathroom. You would have access to the entire home except for my bedroom and office. When I travel (which I do often), you are welcome to use my office.
The home layout includes:
- A living room composed of two connected rooms
- A kitchen that opens onto the deck
- Two back rooms (one with a walk-in closet)
- A sunroom
- One bathroom
I use one of two rooms of the living room as my bedroom and one back room as my office.
The washer and dryer are in the basement and shared with two nearby units. However, the space feels very private—larger than the other units and mostly separate, aside from one shared wall and the deck.
Access to the unit involves 49 steps, and the path to the steps is not well lit.
Additional features:
Separate heating via vents (heats quickly). You will also have an electric heater in your room so you are independent.
High-quality appliances (Bosch dishwasher, Samsung fridge, one-year old gas stove)
Fast internet (61 Mbps download / 81 Mbps upload)
Large (54-inches) screen (not connected to cable, but can be arranged if needed)
Your room can be furnished or unfurnished. Furnishings include:
Queen bed
Desk
Ergonomic chair
Laser printer
Lamps
Linens and towels
Large-screen TV
I am looking for someone who plans to stay at least 3 months. A 1-month deposit is required.
Because this is my first time sharing my home, I am not able to allow guests while I am present. However, when I travel, I am open to limited guest visits. For example, I will be away July 3–August 15 and October 1–21, during which time you would have the home to yourself.
About me: I am a 57-year-old professor at the University of California. I was born in Italy, lived in London in my late 20s and early 30s, and have been in Berkeley for the past 24 years. I am reliable, quiet, communicative, and deeply appreciative of my home, which I consider a refuge. I meditate often and value calm, reflective spaces.
I am looking for someone equally quiet, thoughtful, organized, and reliable. I am not seeking a social or friendship-based living arrangement, but rather a respectful coexistence in a beautiful home. I already have many excellent friends and struggle to find time to spend time with them!
If this resonates with you, please write and tell me about yourself—what draws you to this space, where you are in life, and how you would describe yourself. Living together is a big step, and I would like to find the right fit.
