1968 396 Big Block 2 bolt main. We have had this motor since the late 80s. We dont know what it came out of , I think it was a Canadian Chevelle maybe (Beaumont SD396) but could also be corvette, impala, camaro etc . I believe this motor to have come from a Canada Car because of the VIN stamp on pad 181 number which is 1 =chevrolet, 8=1968 , 1 = Canada Plant . Also it has the suffix code of 3R which I couldnt find for any US cars. I looked on the forum Canadian Poncho and saw that some of the cars from there and other countries have Suffix codes with extra letters or numbers. It came from a stick car. It originally had recessed driver side valve covers for either corvette or other car that had power brakes. We sold the valve covers a long time ago. Heads are sold as well. I still have the intake which has a late 67 date code. Motor has Never been rebuilt or bored. We have checked. *The Motor Turns* we cleanedup the cylinders a little since the pics were taken to verify that it would turn.
The motor is a 1967 date code but it has the VIN stamp with 8 on the front pad which means 1968.
It has been in indoor storage since the late 80s-2021. It is original and has never been rebuilt. I speculate that the car it was from was either wrecked or rusty (Canadian car) . I dont believe it was a corvette or a truck based off vin.
Great project if you are looking for something to make numbers match or close for 1967 1968. If there is the rare chance you have a Beaumont SD396 this is for you but if you put it in a chevelle or corvette or anything else , I dont think people could really dispute you. With the 3R suffix code, I still havent figured it out, I doubt anyone else would be able to either . Looks to be from another country.
This is for people who want numbers close or to match car . If you dont care about the numbers, you can get a cheaper /running BBC out of a motorhome or something else.
It comes with the original intake. Also comes with cover, old water pump and pulley , balancer. I dont have any other parts for it. If anyone wants just the intake I will sell it for 100. I still want 500 for the block either way. This block sells bare on ebay for 1000+
I have had this motor for sale for a while on CL and also have had a video on youtube of it for a couple years and No One has been able to identify what it is from and many people have tried and everyone thinks they are some expert and then never comes back with any more info than I have.
