Dinghy float, weighs about 60 pounds, and it will support itself plus a 150 pound dinghy, or canoe, kayak, shell, small skiff.
Overall dimensions are slightly over 4ft. X 6ft.
The two main tubes are 1/2" thick, 6ft. X 6in. diameter, gray ABS pipe completely filled with pour-in foam floatation.
PVC pipe caps on each end are permanently secured with pipe cement, designed for ABS to PVC glue connection.
Two center floats are California Marina Approved, close cell foam blocks covered with vinyl tarp material. All lashed together using 3 inch diameter ABS pipe, stainless steel tube and aluminum tube for frames. Additional, three temporary frames are 2" black ABS pipe which assist easy sliding to pull a dinghy on or off, (The black 2" pipe assemble is also good for beach landing a small craft.)
The dinghy is secured it to the float using the amid-ship 1" diameter foam covered, carbon fiber cleats. Right side up or upside down.
For maintenance, every year or two, simply untie or cut ONLY the foam block lashings, then scrape the tubes clean in the water, same as a diver does for large vessels. Scum and barnacles are instantly removed from ABS pipe with two swipes of the scraper. Responsibly recycle the used tarp or "Lawn and Leaf" bags, and re-cover and re-lash the foam blocks inside the float and frames. A twenty minute operation the first time trying.
Float is $100 - about 1/3 the cost of constructing it last August. Assistance is provided for disassembling the float for transport, if necessary.
Photo three shows the float with a 10' fiberglass dinghy on it. That dinghy has sold. It had a transom drain plug for rain self-removal.
