10” F4.7 ORION XT10i INTELLISCOPE DOBSONIAN ASTRONOMY TELESCOPE - $450 (chico)

condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: ORION
model name / number: XT10i
Excellent condition and fully tested “push-to” 10” f5 Orion XT10i Intelliscope Dobsonian astronomy telescope with hand controller, fresh 9v battery installed, 90 degree finderscope with caps, dual speed 2”/1.25” focuser, instruction manual, collimation cap and front cap. No eyepieces or laser alignment tool but these can be provided for a nominal cost if you don’t have them.

This is a little known and somewhat unheralded scope, featuring the “push-to” alignment system that is beyond easy to use and works very, very well. Point the scope vertical, confirm the date, align two stars and you’re ready to go. Select an object, follow the arrows on the hand controller screen until they read zero/zero and the object will be in the view of a longer focal length wide field of view eyepiece (I use a 68 degree 24mm 1.25 eyepiece for this procedure).

Of course you don’t have to use the Intelliscope feature, especially if the object is easily seeable with the naked eye, like the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter or the Orion Nebula, just point and observe.

Excellent condition overall, mirrors fine, focuser fine. Rocker base shows some light age and usage marks but is very serviceable.

The 10” size is just about max from a convenience standpoint, fairly easy to lift the tube (OTA…optical tube assembly) from the rocker box and the rocker box itself has a handle. More light grasp than an 8”, not so heavy and large as a 12” or 14”.

Note some familiarity with both the night sky and Newtonian telescope collimation (fine tuning of the optical alignment) will be needed to maximize your enjoyment of this scope. Neither is difficult, there are many astronomy/planetarian apps for both Android and iPhone (SkySafari is the most popular) and collimation is a one-minute process with a laser collimator which I can inexpensively supply if you don’t have one.

$450, price firm for now, thought I'd offer it semi-locally before posting it on Astromart.

Cash only unless you have astro stuff of interest to me towards a trade. Local pickup/meetup in the Chico/Redding/Oroville area preferred however I do occasionally take a trip Sacramento, Redding and the Bay Area, a meetup can be arranged for a seriously interested buyer.

Use the CL email system to reply, put "10” Orion Intelliscope" in the subject line and the same along with your name in the body of your reply or it will be ignored.
