During the summer, my husband and I had to say goodbye to our old boy (a 15 1/2 year old cocker spaniel). Now that we've had a chance to grieve, we are looking for our next furry friend. We've had a couple of possibilities fall through for one reason or another, but are still trying find someone to whom we can give a good home.
About us: We have a large backyard (about 1/4 of an acre and fenced), so there's plenty of room to run around and play. We live in a 2-story house, and we have had a dog for most of our 30 years together. We only ever have 1 dog at a time, though there is a big park within walking distance and dog parks nearby for socializing.
Our ideal dog: Medium sized -- big enough so that my husband (currently walking with a cane) can see and not trip over, but small enough that the pet won't accidentally knock over a somewhat wobbly person. We do not want a new-born pup, though a young dog or young adult is fine.
It is important that they be housetrained to go do their business outside. We understand that there may be accidents in the house while acclimating to a new environment, but we are not in a good position to start house training from scratch at this time.
We will want to meet any potential pet before deciding to take them into our home; we understand that not every dog is a good match for every family. We would also want to see any vet/vaccination records that might be available. (Pre-existing health needs isn't necessarily a deal breaker -- one of our previous dogs was diabetic and needed insulin shots every day, and another needed surgery for cherry eye when we got him. We just want to make sure we understand what we might be getting into.) We would expect to take a copy of vet/vaccination records if we take a dog in.
If you have a dog that might need a good home, I look forward to hearing from you.
